Views of Portsmouth and Southsea.

2 wyllies

Wyllie painted these delicate watercolour views of the City in 1931, the last year of his life.  They were printed in a small book entitled, The Old Portsmouth & the New Southsea, and reflected the changes the area was going through during it's development..  The original watercolors can be seen in Portsmouth City Museum.

These images are supplied as two sets of four mounted pictures printed on a 200 gsm ivory coated base and bevel window mounted within an ivory artboard and backed. For protection the items are presented within a crystal clear art sleeve. The panoramic window size is approx. 265mm x 75mm & the external mount size is 385mmx195mm

Panorama of Portsmouth and Southsea.

Panorama of Portsmouth & Southsea - viewed from an imaginary point above the Solent.  Wyllie never went up in an aeroplane but he could still perfectly visualise the perspective from such a height.  This is a genuine matt photographic reproduction print 36"x8" in size that is supplied rolled in a cardboard tube for protection.   A section of the painting showing Old Portsmouth is seen in close-up, below the full panorama.  The original work can be seen in Portsmouth City Museum.
